Ocean Tomo is starting its 4th year of patent auctions. A catalog of 81 patents for the spring auction is available for review at their website. The spring auction will be held at the Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco, CA on March 26-27, 2009. While I have not attended any of these auctions, I have spoke with a few that have. All of these stories are interesting — there is no other forum quiet like this patent auction. More event information is available at their re-branded PR site. If you attend the auction, we would love to hear about your experience.

Andrew Lahser, Patent Attorney, brings the free initial consultation to the internet. Starting today, you can anonymously ask any patent or trademark question at his website. Within a day, the answer will be posted online. Lahser says “We had to stop offering initial consultations about a year ago. Now, we are excited to have a way to continue to public ally help people understand how patents and trademarks work in everyday practice.” Traditionally, attorneys have used free initial consultations to help find potential clients.

“When we provide an initial consultation free of charge, we just help one person. When we help them online, we will help many more people who have the same questions,” says Lahser. Mr. Lahser reports that his website is highly visible, so, the answers to any quesions asked online should appear in Google search results within a few days.

There are a few limitations. Since the questions and details will be posted online, they should not contain any confidential information. Since online answers are usually shorter. Usually, written questions do not contain enough detail for a thorough analysis of a situation. Mr. Lahser hopes the new service will help people seek out an attorney when they see just how many potential legal issues surround deceptively simple legal questions. Visit the online patent information form or the online trademark information form to try the new service.

Mr. Lahser is an Patent Attorney serving Phoenix, and Scottsdale, Arizona and having experience with computers, software, and mechanical technlogies.
